History
Guilford Racquet & Swim Club was built in 1973. In 1977, Ron and Susan Netter purchased the indoor club and added the outdoor courts, pools and snack bar in 1978, thus transforming the facility into a year round club suitable for all ages. In 1997, a beautiful playground was designed and installed at the club and is greatly enjoyed for much of the year. In 2004, the outdoor court surface was greatly upgraded to Premier Court, more than 2 times softer than hard courts. Susan Netter has managed the club since 1975 and has assembled a great staff, all of whom have contributed to the club's success. Many of the staff members have been a part of the club for more than twenty years. It is a pleasure to welcome back the same members year after year; many members have played here for over 25 years.
The guiding philosophy of Guilford Racquet & Swim is that having a happy and competent staff is the best guarantee of maintaining members' satisfaction and all decisions and planning are made with that dual goal in mind. Consistency is the backbone of the club's policies: all members must be treated fairly and equally. Susan also takes great pride in the facility itself and enjoys continually improving and enhancing the club's appearance. She knows that it is most gratifying to "do well by doing good" and thus donates to the charitable causes of her members when appropriate. It is her hope and dream to continue with her delightful staff and members for many years to come and finds Guilford the perfect town in which to operate her business.
Tennis Courts
Guilford Racquet & Swim Club has six indoor tennis courts and six outdoor courts. The indoor courts were built in 1973. The outdoor courts and swimming pools were added in 1977. Shortly thereafter, skylights were added to the indoor courts, providing natural lighting whenever weather permits.
Our outdoor courts are the Premier surface and indoors, they are the Ultra Nova Cushion surface.
Swimming Pool
We have a swimming pool and a baby pool, whcih were added to the facility in 1978. During Spring 2003, the swimming pool was resurfaced, retiled and renovated. Between Memorial and Labor Days, the pool is often busy with families and swim team practice.
