Summer Pool Activities 2008

GRSC   SWIM   LESSON   INFORMATION - 2008

Children should come to class ready to swim with bathing suits on, preferably 10 minutes early.  Parents are allowed to observe class, but please do so from an area where you will not be a distraction to your children.  A 50% deposit is required with the application form, and the balance is due the first day of the class.  Please register in advance – spaces may be limited!

 

GROUP LESSONS:

There are a total of 6 lessons for each session (Monday through Friday + the additional Monday – the rest of the days of the week will be available for weather make-ups). Children are placed with other children of similar swimming ability. No classes larger than 6 kids. There are five available sessions for each level.  The cost for one student per level per session is $88*.

 

Session 1 :         June 23-June 30  

          Session 2 :         July 7-July 14

            Session 3 :         July 21-July 28

            Session 4 :         August 4-August 11

            Session 5 :         August 18-August 25

 

Level 1 / Beginner ~ 10-10:30 AM

Ability of student: Open to new swimmers who are unable to swim on their own.

Objective: The Level 1 program is to help the students feel comfortable in the water.  Such skills as putting their face in the water, swimming a short distance on their own, and jumping in the pool are objectives at this level.

 

Level 2 / Advanced Beginner ~ 10:30-11 AM

Ability of student: Open to children who have taken Level 1 in the past or are comfortable in the water, since they will be moving into the deep end of the pool. Objective: The Level 2 program is for students to develop fundamental skills.  Such skills include swimming a short distance with breathing, survival floating, swimming on their back, and reaching a degree of confidence in the deep end of the pool.

 

Level 3 / Stroke Fundamentals ~ 11-11:30 AM

Ability of student:  child must be comfortable in the deep end of the pool, be able to tread water and is ready to learn basic strokes. Objective: This session will help students accomplish one lap with correct fundamentals in the front crawl (freestyle) and the back crawl (backstroke).  It will also help students with safety methods and confidence in the water.

 

Level 4 / Swim   Team  Clinic ~ 11:30 AM –12 Noon ~ $98*

This swim clinic will be open to summer members who are on the Swim Team. The clinic will concentrate on teaching a different skill or stroke each day. Upon completion, the swimmers will have been exposed to all the required elements to prepare them for competitive events. 

                        Monday = Backstroke

Tuesday = Breaststroke

                        Wednesday = Butterfly

                        Thursday = Flip turns

                        Friday = Diving

 

Swimmers should have basic freestyle and backstroke skills with some knowledge of all other skills – breaststroke, butterfly, flip turns and diving. There will be no more than 3 children in any one session.

 

Private Swim Lessons:

These lessons are one-on-one with an instructor for 30 minutes.  Lessons must be scheduled with the pool director and/or a lifeguard whom you desire to teach your child.  A registration form must be filled out prior to the lesson.  If a scheduled lesson is not cancelled within 24 hours, you will be billed (that includes children who become frightened or cold when it comes time to start the lesson).  Cost:  $32/ lesson

 

Semi-Private Lessons :

These lessons have the same requirements as private lessons except that they are with two children instead of one.  Children should be paired according to similar level and age.  Cost: $22/ per child for 30 minutes.

 

Parent – Tot Swim Class ~ 12-12:30 PM

This class is held for parents with children ages 3 and under. We will demonstrate how to introduce your child to a water environment so they will feel more comfortable and confident as they grow older. $95*/session. Swimmie Diapers Required! This is the only time children not completely potty trained are allowed in the big pool.  Classes will run as close to a full half hour as possible, given weather, pool temp and comfort level.

Swim Team:

Swimmers must be at least 6 years of age to participate. Swimmers younger than 6 may try out if they have participated in a swim team previously. Practices are Monday through Friday, 8-9:30 am, split into time slots by age. Practices start June 23rd. Cost: $85/child, including pizza party at season’s end.

Family Swim Night - Friday nights - dates to be announced! Enjoy some games at the pool & eat at the snack bar


 

The swimming pools were built in 1977, in conjunction with the expansion to outdoor tennis facilities. During the Spring of 2003, the swimming pools were resurfaced, retiled and renovated.
Between Memorial and Labor Days, the pool is often busy with families and swim team practice.
